Our HIStory

Founded in 1965 by Viola and Archie Strimbold, E.A. Strimbold Ltd. began at Fulton Lake, where Archie worked alongside his father, Eric Strimbold of Strimbold Sawmills. Forestry operations took shape with the purchase of the company’s first bulldozer, marking the start of a new era. From this base, the Strimbolds expanded into Andrew Bay, building roads and logging for Eurocan, which transported timber across Ootsa Lake and over to Kemano, before shipping it out to the ocean at Kitimat. Archie himself often cleared the Kemano road during the harsh winter months, where snow could reach up to eleven feet. Another memorable milestone came when E.A. Strimbold Ltd. cleared the land for the existing Babine Forest Products sawmill. From those rugged beginnings, the company has grown into a diverse, multi-generational enterprise that remains rooted in northern British Columbia’s people, landscapes, and spirit.

In the 1980s, their son Marvin Strimbold stepped into leadership, purchasing the company from his parents as part of a family succession plan. While his siblings pursued other paths, Marvin carried forward the family name and values, fostering a culture of innovation, integrity, and inclusion. Under his guidance, E.A. Strimbold Ltd. became known for saying “yes” to challenges others wouldn’t—bringing in one of BC’s first harvesters and forwarders for selective harvesting in 1991, and continuing to pioneer approaches in forestry, road building, and land integration to deliver lasting benefits to the communities we serve.

Over the decades, our company has evolved to meet new demands and opportunities—from hand falling and line skidder operations in remote forests, to selective harvesting, to building over 300 km of utility corridors across rugged terrain. Our agricultural work on the headwaters of Bulkley Lake reflects a broader commitment to land integration and long-term stewardship. Through each project, we have worked hand in hand with Indigenous Nations, government agencies, and community partners—building trust, sharing knowledge, and co-creating value.

Over the years, E.A. Strimbold Ltd. and Marvin Strimbold have also been integral in wildfire management, leading first-response teams that attacked fires at their source and put them out. Bringing the same dedication, equipment, and resilience that defined our forestry operations, we helped protect northern communities and landscapes when they needed it most.

Today, we are proud to be a family-rooted, future-focused company. Our story is not just about what we’ve done—but how we’ve done it: with purpose, with people, and with a lasting commitment to stewardship.

And our story is far from finished. With new generations stepping forward, we are excited to continue growing, embracing innovation, and adapting to the ever-changing ways of business. We look forward to building new partnerships, pursuing future projects, and exploring opportunities across forestry, land development, agriculture, and beyond. What began with a single bulldozer has become a legacy of resilience and progress—and we are committed to carrying that legacy forward, creating value for communities, partners, and future generations.
